The Sport and Domestic Injuries Clinic was established in 1999 by resident therapist Gerry McKenna who is a holder of diploma’s in Anatomy Physiology and Body Massage from the International Therapies Examination Council (ITEC), Sports Psychology from The Newcastle College of Further Education and is a member of The Federation of Holistic Therapists.  Gerry also studied for his  Certificate in Education at Truro College through Plymouth University.  He also carries Professional Indemnity cover, which of course can  only be obtained by qualified persons and responsible organisations.

Modern scientific understanding has developed an advice centred approach to injuries and their prevention based on assessment, treatment and exercise.  Sports and domestic injuries therapists can provide specific actual treatment that can prevent further injury  using massage and manipulation.  It is the treatment of soft tissue injury such as strains, sprains and muscle tears.  In fact most injuries that occur are not only as a result of community sport but have occurred from either general daily work or recreational purposes.

They may be caused by accidents or by overuse and they do not necessarily differ from injuries sustained in a sporting environment.  Injuries may be diagnosed and then treated effectively so that  general daily work and leisure activity can be resumed at the earliest opportunity.  Even the more casual enthusiast upon whom demands are not so great suffer both physically and psychologically as a result of minor injuries and may be prevented from pursuing the activity which usually contributes significantly to their sense of well being and quality of life.  Knowing what to look out for and where to go for sound advice and rehabilitation is vital if you wish to continue your sport, fitness regime or everyday life.

With the aid of manipulation and sports massage techniques to speed up recovery together with ultrasound and electrical stimulation treatment as well as prescribing a rehabilitation programme of mobility, stretching and strengthening exercises these injuries can be treated effectively.

Gerry is available to you individually or your club to provide local support and looks forward to meeting new clients ensuring their  safety and well being at all times.
